A Complete Guide to the Rosary on Saturday

guide praying saturday rosary

Which Mysteries are to be used for the Saturday Rosary?

Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary

The Saturday Rosary, also referred to as the Saturday Mysteries as well as the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary, are prayed on Saturday. It contains five decades, or events, from scripture concerning the resurrection of Jesus and beyond. These aid in building our faith and also in decreasing our sin.  There are opening prayers, prayers following each decade, and closing prayers.  Together, these prayers and decades make up the world’s most popular prayer and is said millions of times everyday.

A suggestion …

Pray the Rosary early in the morning before you start your day.  Why pray it at the end of the day after the day is over?

Read the scriptures out loud. Don’t just announce the decade, but read the scriptures to accompany the prayers.

Additionally, if a primer on Rosary Beads is needed, one is available here.

Rosary Guides

We have downloadable and printable Rosary guides for all mysteries available for your use also.  These are free for downloading and sharing. We recommend all have one for future use.  They can be printed and used when praying the Rosary and is a great aid for anyone but especially for beginners.  The author still uses them to this day.

If you want to pray the Saturday Rosary through this Webpage, you can do that also.

Why pray the Saturday Rosary?

In 2012, I began praying this prayer of my own accord, which changed my life completely. Its power is real, so I wish to get as many people as I can to use this prayer daily as I have done, regardless of religious affiliation. I have had tremendous spiritual experiences that came at this time and were beyond anything I could have imagined. I believe these experiences have happened to me because of my devotion to prayer and the Rosary (although I do not think that devotion and prayer guarantee experiences, as I have had, will happen to everyone). My Catholic Conversion occurred in 2019, something I had no desire to do before.

It is my intention for people to pray the Rosary frequently so they might live life more abundantly, as I have had.

What are the mysteries of the Saturday Rosary?

The Glorious Mysteries are considered the third mysteries of the Rosary and contain five gospel events in the life of Jesus and Mary.  The mysteries of the Saturday Rosary are listed below.

  • The Ascension of Jesus
    Luke 24:36-51
    Jesus ascends from Bethania.
  • Pentecost – Descension of the Holy Spirit
    Acts 2:1-13
The Holy Spirit descends on the Apsotles at Pentecost.
  • Assumption of Mary
    Judth 13:18-20, Judith 15:10
    The Assumption of Mary.
  • Coronation of Mary
    Revelation 12:1-6
The Woman and the Serpent –  Signs in heavens.

What are the different Prayers of the Saturday Rosary?

There nine or ten different prayers that are included in the Rosary.  There are three sections of prayers.  They are the opening prayers, decade prayers, and closing prayers. Some prayers occur multiple times and in multiple sections.

A Request

O My Dearest Mother Mary, behold me your child in prayer at your feet. Accept this Holy Rosary, which I offer you in accordance with your requests at Fatima, as a proof of my tender love for you, for the intentions of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in atonement for the offenses committed against your Immaculate Heart, and for this special favor which I humbly request in This Rosary.

(Mention your request here)

I beg you to present my petition to your Divine Son. I ask it for the greater glory, of GOD, for your honor, and the good of all Souls. If you will pray for me, I cannot be refused.  I know, dearest Mother, that you want me to seek GOD’s Holy Will concerning my request. If what I ask for should not be granted, pray that I may receive that which will be of greater benefit to my soul. Sweet heart of Mary be my Salvation, Amen.

In the Name of the Father

Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.  Amen.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen

Salve Regina

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley, of tears. Turn, then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus; O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Fatima Prayer # 2

“My God, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love You. I beg pardon of You for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love You.”

What are Scripturally-based Rosaries?

Scripturally-based Rosaries are Rosaries where the Scriptures are read, usually aloud.  I do it this way everytime I pray the Rosary because I feel like it is more complete and I get more out of it. It is my personal preference.

Any Rosary, whether it be the Saturday Rosary or what have you, can be said scripturally, it just takes longer.  Where I attend Mass, the mystery titles are announced for the sake of time and then the prayers follow. It takes roughly twenty minutes to complete.  The longer version, where all scriptures are read, takes me between forty and forty-five minutes to complete.

For me personally, the longer route is the way to go.

The Resurrection of Jesus

The Resurrection of Jesus - Glorious Mysteries
The Resurrection of Christ - Paolo Veronese - 1570
Scripture
Matthew 28: 1-6

And in the end of the sabbath, when it began to dawn towards the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalen and the other Mary, to see the sepulchre.

And behold there was a great earthquake. For an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and coming, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it.

And his countenance was as lightning, and his raiment as snow.

And for fear of him, the guards were struck with terror, and became as dead men.

And the angel answering, said to the women: Fear not you; for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.

He is not here, for he is risen, as he said. Come, and see the place where the Lord was laid.

The Ascension of Jesus

The Ascension of Jesus - Glorious Mysteries
The Ascension - James Tissot - 1886-1894
Scripture
Matthew 27: 11-26

And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, saying: Art thou the king of the Jews? Jesus saith to him: Thou sayest it.

And when he was accused by the chief priests and ancients, he answered nothing.

Then Pilate saith to him: Dost not thou hear how great testimonies they allege against thee?

And he answered him to never a word; so that the governor wondered exceedingly.

Now upon the solemn day the governor was accustomed to release to the people one prisoner, whom they would.

And he had then a notorious prisoner, that was called Barabbas.

They therefore being gathered together, Pilate said: Whom will you that I release to you, Barabbas, or Jesus that is called Christ?

For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

And as he was sitting in the place of judgment, his wife sent to him, saying: Have thou nothing to do with that just man; for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

But the chief priests and ancients persuaded the people, that they should ask for Barabbas, and take Jesus away.

And the governor answering, said to them: Whether will you of the two to be released unto you? But they said, Barabbas.

Pilate saith to them: What shall I do then with Jesus that is called Christ? They say all: Let him be crucified.

The governor said to them: Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying: Let him be crucified.

And Pilate seeing that he prevailed nothing, but that rather a tumult was made; taking water washed his hands before the people, saying: I am innocent of the blood of this just man; look you to it.

And the whole people answering, said: His blood be upon us and our children.

Then he released to them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him unto them to be crucified.

Pentecost

Pentecost - Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary
Pentecost - Giovanni Lanfranco - 1631
Scripture
Acts 2:1-21

And when the days of the Pentecost were accomplished, they were all together in one place: and suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a mighty wind coming, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

And there appeared to them parted tongues as it were of fire, and it sat upon every one of them:

And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they began to speak with divers tongues, according as the Holy Ghost gave them to speak.

Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem, Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

And when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded in mind, because that every man heard them speak in his own tongue.

And they were all amazed, and wondered, saying: Behold, are not all these, that speak, Galileans?

And how have we heard, every man our own tongue wherein we were born?

Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea, and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews also, and proselytes, Cretes, and Arabians: we have heard them speak in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.

And they were all astonished, and wondered, saying one to another: What meaneth this?

But others mocking, said: These men are full of new wine.

But Peter standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spoke to them: Ye men of Judea, and all you that dwell in Jerusalem, be this known to you, and with your ears receive my words.

For these are not drunk, as you suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day: But this is that which was spoken of by the prophet Joel: and it shall come to pass, in the last days, (saith the Lord,) I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.

And upon my servants indeed, and upon my handmaids will I pour out in those days of my spirit, and they shall prophesy.

And I will shew wonders in the heaven above, and signs on the earth beneath: blood and fire, and vapour of smoke.

The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and manifest day of the Lord come.

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.

Assumption of Mary

The Assumption of Mary - Glorious Mysteries
Assumption of Virgin Mary - Guido Reni - 1638-1639
Scripture
Judith 13:18-20; 15:10

And by me his handmaid he hath fulfilled his mercy, which he promised to the house of Israel: and he hath killed the enemy of his people by my hand this night.

Then she brought forth the head of Holofernes out of the wallet, and shewed it them, saying: Behold the head of Holofernes the general of the army of the Assyrians, and behold his canopy, wherein he lay in his drunkenness, where the Lord our God slew him by the hand of a woman.

But as the same Lord liveth, his angel hath been my keeper both going hence, and abiding there, and returning from thence hither: and the Lord hath not suffered me his handmaid to be defiled, but hath brought me back to you without pollution of sin, rejoicing for his victory, for my escape, and for your deliverance.

And when she was come out to him, they all blessed her with one voice, saying: Thou art the glory of Jerusalem, thou art the joy of Israel, thou art the honor of our people:

For thou hast done manfully, and thy heart has been strengthened, because thou hast loved chastity, and after thy husband hast not known any other: therefore also the hand of the Lord hath strengthened thee, and therefore thou shalt be blessed forever.

And all the people said: So be it, so be it.

Coronation of the Virgin - Diego Velázquez - 1635
Scripture
Revelation 12:1-6

And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars:

And being with child, she cried travailing in birth, and was in pain to be delivered.

And there was seen another sign in heaven: and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads, and ten horns: and on his head seven diadems: And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to be delivered; that, when she should be delivered, he might devour her son.

And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with an iron rod: and her son was taken up to God, and to his throne.

And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she had a place prepared by God, that there they should feed her a thousand two hundred sixty days.

Additional Prayers to the Saturday Rosary

Dolorosa - Our Lady of Sorrows
Dolorosa - Bartolome Esteban Murillo - 1660

From time to time, I like to append a couple of prayers to the Saturday Rosary to Our Lady. One is a prayer taken from the Litany of Our Lady of Sorrows.  The other is the Memorare.

From Our Lady of Sorrows

Imprint, O Lady, thy wounds upon my heart, that I may read therein sorrow and love: sorrow, to endure every sorrow for thee; love, to despise every love for thee.

Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help, or sought your intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence,
I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy, hear and answer me.
Amen.
