The Glorious Mysteries Prayed on Sunday
The Rosary for Sunday is prayed with the Glorious Mysteries, which lead the faithful through the triumph of Jesus Christ and the glory of eternal life. These five mysteries begin with the Resurrection of Jesus and end with the Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth.
The Glorious Mysteries are:

Through these mysteries, the faithful reflect on Christ’s victory over death, His Ascension into Heaven, the coming of the Holy Ghost, and the heavenly glory given to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Glorious Mysteries strengthen hope, deepen trust in God, and turn the soul toward the promise of eternal life. They are customarily prayed on Sunday.

The Ascension of Jesus

The Assumption of Mary

Sunday’s Rosary draws the faithful into the victory and glory of Jesus Christ through the Glorious Mysteries. By meditating on His Resurrection, Ascension, and the coming of the Holy Ghost, Catholics grow in hope, courage, perseverance, and trust in God’s promises.
Praying these mysteries also lifts the heart toward Heaven. The length of the Rosary depends on the pace of prayer and whether the Scripture passages and meditations are read. A Rosary prayed without extended readings commonly takes about twenty to twenty-five minutes. Reading the Scripture and meditation for every mystery may extend the prayer to about forty-five minutes.
The Rosary should not be rushed. A peaceful pace allows the soul to reflect on the life of Jesus and pray each mystery with greater attention.
The Rosary developed gradually through centuries of Catholic prayer and devotion. Its early form was connected with the practice of praying repeated Our Fathers and Hail Marys in place of the 150 Psalms.
Catholic tradition also closely connects the spread of the Rosary with St. Dominic. In The Secret of the Rosary, St. Louis de Montfort recounts the tradition that the Blessed Virgin Mary gave the Rosary to St. Dominic in 1214.
