What are the Joyful Mysteries?

The Joyful Mysteries are the first set of Mysteries of the Rosary. These are the five most important events, taken from scripture, in the lives of Jesus and Mary that occurred before the hidden years (the long stretch of Jesus’ life that the Gospels do not describe in detail—roughly from age 13 to about age 30). They are prayed on Mondays and Saturdays.

The Mysteries topics include the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the Presentation in the Temple, and the Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple.

Each mystery demonstrates how God works through humble hearts and ordinary moments. Through Mary’s “yes,” Jesus took flesh and entered the world. Through her trust and love, joy was made visible.

Mary is called the Cause of Our Joy in the Litany of Loreto because, through her, Jesus Christ entered the world. Her willing “yes” at the Annunciation opened the way for our salvation. Without her faith, there would be no manger, no cross, no empty tomb. She carried Joy Himself in her womb, held Him in her arms, and stood by Him in every sorrow. Her life points us to Jesus—the source of all true joy. When we stay close to Mary, she always leads us back to Him.

Our Lady's Desire

Dolorosa - Our Lady of Sorrows
Dolorosa - Bartolome Esteban Murillo - 1660

Our Lady led me into the Catholic Church in 2019.  I had a widowmaker heart attack on a golf course and briefly left this world in 2017 (see my story, Catholic Conversion – A Marian Journey). It happened in an instant, and I didn’t get to prepare before leaving. Don’t expect it to be any different for you. I believe it could be the same way for anyone else. These prayers are available for anyone who wants to prepare now.

Our Lady desires that as many as possible should use these prayers daily and walk down the path that she and her Son have laid out for us. There is no better way to walk this path than through a daily practice of the Rosary

Remember, the Rosary is one of the best sources of spiritual protection and this has been noted by priests, exorcists, and popes throughout the ages.

Why Use a PDF Guide?

Using a PDF to pray the Joyful Mysteries brings focus, peace, and structure to your prayer. Whether you’re just beginning or you’ve prayed it for years, a guide like this helps deepen both the prayer and the faith behind it.

Here are seven reasons why using a PDF guide is beneficial for anyone seeking to deepen their prayer life and draw closer to the life of Christ through the Joyful Mysteries.

  1. Clear and consistent. A good guide lays out each step in a simple format, so you never have to guess what comes next or worry about forgetting a prayer. The layout is the same every time, and that consistency builds the habit that strengthens prayer.
  2. Printable and shareable. Print it for home, a prayer group, or a parish event. It works for family prayer, catechism classes, and RCIA sessions — some parishes print it for their Rosary Confraternity so every member shares the same prayers and reflections.
  3. Helps you stay focused. It is easy to lose focus praying alone. A guide keeps the mind on track, and the meditations tie each Joyful Mystery to a real moment in Christ’s life, turning routine prayer into something richer.
  4. Great for teaching. A printable guide walks new people through the beads step by step — especially helpful with groups, children, and teens. Everyone is literally on the same page, so the group prays as one.
  5. Includes meditations and Scripture. A quality PDF adds short meditations and Bible verses to each mystery. Reading Mary’s words at the Annunciation — *”Be it done to me according to thy word”* (Luke 1:38) — can stir the soul and help you echo her trust.
  6. No internet or app needed. Once downloaded, the PDF works anywhere — a chapel, a retreat, or a quiet corner at home — with no Wi-Fi or signal and no tech distractions.
  7. Free and reusable. Print it once and it is yours, or keep it on your phone or tablet. Reuse it daily or weekly — a low-cost, high-value way to stay close to the Rosary.

The Joyful Mysteries leads the faithful deeper into the life of Christ. A PDF guide supports that prayer. It brings structure, teaches the rhythm of the beads, and feeds both mind and spirit. Whether you’re praying alone or as a family, this simple tool can help you pray better and love Christ more.

Which Bible Translation does the PDF Use?

Our website offers a variety of Rosary content in both web pages and PDF formats. All scriptural references within these resources are taken from the Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition, a well-known and respected Catholic Bible translation. To make reading and meditation more seamless, the verse numbers have been removed. However, every scriptural reference still includes the Book, chapter, and verse details, ensuring you can easily locate the passages in your own Bible if desired.

Because a Scripture passage accompanies each mystery, this printable also works as a Scriptural Rosary guide — simply read the verse for each mystery before praying its decade.

Rosary Prayers Included in the Joyful Mysteries PDF

Queen of the Holy Rosary Prayer

Queen of the Holy Rosary,
you have deigned to come to Fatima,
to reveal to the three shepherd children the treasures of grace hidden in the Rosary.
Inspire my heart with a sincere love of this devotion,
in order that by meditating on the Mysteries of our Redemption which are recalled in it,
I may be enriched with its fruits and obtain peace for the world,
the conversion of sinners and of Russia,
and the favor which I ask of you in this Rosary.

(Mention your request here)

I ask it for the greater glory of God, for your own honor, and for the good of souls, especially for my own. Amen.

Sign of the Cross

In the Name Of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Apostles Creed

I believe in God,
the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth;
and in Jesus Christ,
His only Son,
our Lord;
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified,
died,
and was buried.

He descended into hell;
the third day He arose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven,
and sits at the right hand of God,
the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of Saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.

Amen.

Our Father

Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary,
full of grace,
the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Glory Be to the Father

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.

Amen.

Fatima Prayer

O my Jesus,
forgive us our sins,
save us from the fires of hell,
lead all souls to Heaven,
especially those who have most need of your mercy.

Amen.

Hail, Holy Queen (Salve Regina)

Hail, holy Queen,
Mother of Mercy!
our life,
our sweetness,
and our hope!

To thee do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve;
to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.

Turn, then,
most gracious Advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us;
and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus;
O clement,
O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us,
O Holy Mother of God,
that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Rosary Closing Prayer

O God,
whose only begotten Son has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life,
Grant that we beseech Thee while meditating upon these mysteries
of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise,
through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Fatima Pardon Prayer

My God,
I believe,
I adore,
I hope,
and I love You.
I beg pardon of You for those who do not believe,
do not adore,
do not hope,
and do not love You.
